On June 16, 2014, I had just come home from working the graveyard shift and fell asleep at about 5 a.m. At 9:05 a.m. my son came running into my room, yelling that he smelled smoke. I got up and when I was 20 feet from my room, I noticed smoke coming out of the third unit of our mobile home. Not long after, I saw flames starting to ignite. My son rushed out of the house as I went back to my room to get my wife. She was still asleep.

By the time I got back to my room, just 20 feet away, the room was already filled with thick black smoke. I couldn’t see where my wife was. I groped around and finally found her. I picked her up and rushed out of the room and onto the porch. When I put her down on the porch, she woke up. She looked around, saw flames and smoke, and said, “The house is on fire.”

After I caught my breath, I kicked the railing off of the porch and we jumped 4 feet to the ground and ran. We had barely gotten 40 feet from the house when the flames reached our room. Within the next 5 minutes, the fire had burned through the walls and reached the gas mains, causing a massive explosion. The whole house was up in flames.

We lost everything that we owned that day. But we because of Jesus’ protection, we escaped with our lives. Not only that, when I shared this event on Facebook, a lot of people stepped forward and gave us money, clothes and furniture.

After that day, I thank God every day when I wake up; because when I look around me, all I see is His favor and blessings that have never left me.
